Game Journal: Splatterhouse (1 Credit Clear)

I got a 1 credit clear of Splatterhouse, a 1988 arcade action platformer by Namco.

It's an interesting Castlevania-style action platformer for the arcades. Although it gives you infinite continues, it sends you back to the start of the stage every time, so you can still have a good time playing through the game when using infinite credits and treating it like a console game.

The difficulty level is fairly low by arcade game standards and there's not much to do after you've cleared it unless you get into speedrunning, but I loved my time with the game nonetheless!

Stage 6, the corridor where you have to proactively punch and kick randomly swaying bubbles out of the air before they overwhelm you and take you out, is by far my favourite part of the game. It's completely chaotic and terrifying, and feels different every time you play it. Despite only being a minute and a half long, it took me two full hours of practice to learn to be fairly consistent at it, which is more time than it took me to learn the rest of the game combined. So if that stage looks fun to you, give the game a try!
